Futian in a minute
Futian is Shenzhen's government and business centre, the grid of towers between Lianhuashan Park and the Hong Kong border. Ping An Finance Center, the Civic Center and the Futian Convention & Exhibition Center sit on one long north–south axis, with Coco Park's bars a few minutes' walk away.
It's the most central place to stay and the easiest district to get around: nearly every metro line passes through, the airport is about half an hour away on Line 11, and Hong Kong is 14 minutes by high-speed train or a walk across the border at Futian or Huanggang.
For expats it's the after-work district: Latin dance nights, pub quizzes, Toastmasters clubs, comedy open mics, the electronics of Huaqiangbei and the underground clubs and livehouses around Xiasha.

Going to a trade show at the Futian Convention & Exhibition Center?
Trade show calendar →- It's right in the CBD: Lines 1 and 4 stop at Convention & Exhibition Center station, and Shopping Park (Lines 1 and 3) is a short walk.
- It's much smaller than Shenzhen World (9 halls, about 105,000 m² indoors), so a full show is easily walkable in a day.
- Pre-register on the fair's website with your passport details and bring the same passport to collect your badge.
- Hotels: there are plenty across the CBD within a few metro stops, so you can stay almost anywhere along Lines 1, 3 or 4.
- After the show, Coco Park's bars are next door, and on Wednesdays there's a free Latin dance night at Revolución Cocktail by the convention centre.
- From the airport, take Line 11 to Futian, then walk or ride one stop on Line 3 to Shopping Park. From Hong Kong, the high-speed train to Futian station is the fastest way in.
