The world's biggest electronics bazaar: components, phones, drones and a museum to match

Huaqiangbei is the electronics market district that made Shenzhen the hardware capital of the world. Along Huaqiang North Road, multi-storey markets hold thousands of stalls selling everything from resistors and LED strips to phones, drones and smart-home kit, plus repair counters that will fix almost anything.

The road itself is a 930-metre pedestrian street. It was boarded up from 2013 for Metro Line 7 construction and reopened as a car-free street on 14 January 2017, with underground shopping and direct metro links. The district's reputation has moved with the times, from knock-off phones in the 2000s, through the maker boom, to today's DJI stores, robots and AI gadgets.

It works for makers sourcing parts, anyone after a cheap phone case or cable, and visitors who just want to see the scale of it. Even if you buy nothing, an afternoon wandering the floors is one of the most Shenzhen things you can do.
