Nothing on the board yet

Shenzhen's padel games mostly live in WeChat groups, where newcomers can't see them. These are the formats they usually run in. Host one? Post it and it lands here.

  1. 01Americano

Partners rotate every game and points count per player, so you don't need a partner to join. The standard social format.

    Post your americano →
  2. 02Mexicano

Like an americano, but each round pairs players on similar scores, so the games stay close.

    Post your mexicano →
  3. 03Open match

Someone books a court with one to three spots left and a level range; you fill a spot.

    Post your open match →
  4. 04Clinic

A coach, up to four players and one court, working on one shot for an hour.

Padel rules in 60 seconds

Enough to survive your first game. The rest you'll pick up on court.

20 × 10 m, enclosed by glass and mesh walls
  1. Always doubles. Four players, two per side. Singles courts exist but are rare.
  2. Serve underarm. Bounce the ball behind the service line and hit it at or below waist height, diagonally into the box.
  3. One bounce, then walls. The ball must bounce on the ground before touching a wall on your opponents' side. After that, walls are in play.
  4. Play it off the glass. You can let the ball rebound off your own back or side walls before returning it — that's the whole fun.
  5. Tennis scoring. 15, 30, 40, game. Many social games use 'golden point' at deuce to keep things moving.

Gear basics

  • Racket

Padel rackets are solid and stringless, with holes through the face; tennis rackets aren't allowed. Borrow one before you buy.

  • Balls

They look like tennis balls but are slightly less pressurised, so the rallies stay slower.

  • Shoes

Court shoes with a herringbone sole grip the sanded artificial grass; running shoes slide.

  • Or order online

Taobao and JD sell balls, grips and strings. Rackets are worth trying in person first.
