From lie-down-and-listen to properly sweaty. Every card shows how intense it is and whether it suits a first visit.

RestorativeClassic postures held for a few breaths — what most studios mean by a plain "yoga class".
GentleMovement linked to breath, one pose flowing into the next. Expect to sweat a bit.
ModerateHeated room (35–40°C), fast pace. Bring a towel and a lot of water.
SweatySpring-loaded machines, small groups, very precise. Book a beginners' intro first.
StrongGuided breathing patterns, lying down. Can feel surprisingly intense — facilitators check in first.
GentleSeated, guided or silent. Community groups are often free or donation-based.
RestorativeLie down under a blanket while singing bowls, chimes and gongs are played around the room.
RestorativeA facilitated gathering to talk, listen and rest together — often with cacao or sound. No experience needed.
RestorativeBreathing warm-up, then 1–3 minutes in 3–6°C water with a coach beside you. Only ever do it guided.
StrongSlow, standing, done outdoors at dawn in city parks. Just join the back row.
GentleStudios here work a little differently: most bookings happen on WeChat, many studios offer a discounted trial class (体验课), and teachers often cue in Chinese while demonstrating every pose. Here's how a first visit usually goes.
Add the studio's WeChat and ask for a 体验课 (trial class) and the timetable.
Quick waiver, shoes off, lockers. Mention any injuries to the teacher.
Watch, copy, rest in child's pose whenever you need. Nobody's looking.
Expect a pitch for a class pack. Ask how long it's valid before you pay.
Yoga and breathwork are exercise, not medical treatment. Nothing on this page is medical advice — if you have a health condition, talk to your doctor first.

Shekou
An English-language healing studio on a Shekou rooftop garden: sound baths with crystal bowls and gongs (including an aerial version in silks), breathwork, cacao ceremonies, yoga nidra, yoga and women's circles.
Weekly timetable: not posted yet. Teach here? Post your classes (times, level, language) and newcomers can book the right one.
Post the timetable →Most classes in Shenzhen are only advertised in Chinese apps. This is how to find them.
Search 瑜伽 (yoga) or 普拉提 (pilates) plus your district on Dianping or Xiaohongshu, add the studio's WeChat and ask for a 体验课 and whether the teacher speaks English.
Tai chi and qigong groups practise at dawn in most city parks. Nobody minds if you stand at the back and follow.
Shenzhen Daily's weekly Expat Explorer column lists English-friendly classes, including free community yoga when it runs.

The Garden, a rooftop studio in Shekou, teaches everything in English: yoga, yoga nidra, breathwork, meditation and sound baths. It's the only studio we've verified so far. Many other studios teach in Chinese and demonstrate every pose, so you can follow along — ask on WeChat before you book.
Sometimes, but there's no regular free session we can list right now. ActiveSZexpats, a hiking community, has run free "Yoga on the Lawn" sessions with volunteer teachers (joined through its WeChat group), and the Shekou Expats' Morning School ran free Friday-morning yoga in 2025. Tai chi in city parks at dawn is always free.
It varies a lot, and most studios only publish prices on WeChat. Real examples: ¥1,200 for a 10-class yoga pack at a Futian studio (early 2025), and ¥188 for a breathwork and cacao session at The Garden (Aug 2026). Ask for a trial class (体验课) first.
Yes. The Garden in Shekou runs women's circles in English as part of its Sacred Feminine programme. Dates are listed at the top of this page when announced; the price is on request.
At The Garden, yes. At most other studios expect Chinese cues with English help if you ask — the phrases above cover the basics.
A lying-down relaxation session with singing bowls and gongs — no experience needed. See our sound bath guide for what to expect and how to find one.
