Privacy policy

SZMeetups is a guide to things to do in Shenzhen, run by Zack Franklin. This page explains what we collect, what we use it for and how to change or delete it. Membership is for people aged 18 and over.

When you just browse

• A visitor ID in a cookie (szm_vid), so we can count daily visitors and keep poll answers to one per person.
• Google Analytics 4 measures page views and where visitors come from, with its own cookies.
• Our host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, page) for security and debugging.

When you join

Your email and name are required. The rest of the join form is optional:

• Where you're from, how long you've been in Shenzhen, your area, languages, Chinese level and what you're here to do
• Your interests
• Your work: company, position, industry, and whether and how you're in e-commerce
• Your age range and gender
• Your WeChat ID
• How you heard about us, and which member invited you if you joined through their link

We use it to run your account, pick events and emails for you, understand who our members are, and work with organizers, venues and partners. You can change any of it on your page.

Saves, follows and RSVPs

We keep what you save, follow and RSVP to, so we can remind you and suggest more. Hosts can see the first names of members who RSVP'd to their events. We don't show attendance counts on the site.

When you submit or host an event

Event details you send are published on the site. Your own contact details stay off the listing unless you ask us to show them as the way to book. Listing text may be run through an AI model to translate it or pull out dates and prices.

Who processes it, and where

• Railway: hosting and the database, in Singapore
• Cloudflare R2: images and backups
• Resend: sending email
• Google Analytics: visit statistics
• MiniMax: translating and reading listing text

Your data is stored outside mainland China, in Singapore. By joining you agree to that transfer.

How long we keep it

Account data stays until you delete your account. Backups are kept for 30 days (monthly ones for a year).

Your choices

• Turn off any email with the link at its foot, or on your page.
• Ask for a copy of your data or delete your account by emailing hello@szmeetups.com from the address you joined with. We reply within a week.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update this page and, for members, say so by email.
