Isozaki's acoustic concert hall in Futian: the city orchestra, a pipe organ, cheap Sunday shows
Shenzhen Concert Hall is the city's main venue for classical music. It opened in October 2007 as part of the Futian Cultural Center, the glass-fronted complex designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki that it shares with Shenzhen Library, a short walk from the Civic Center and Children's Palace metro.
The main auditorium is a 1,680-seat hall built for unamplified sound, with seating stepped down the sides in terraces like a valley. It holds the only pipe organ in Shenzhen, built by the Austrian firm Rieger. Upstairs there is a smaller suspended theatre whose layout can be set for roughly 400 to 580 seats, plus the Golden Tree Hall and a music salon used for talks and recitals.
The programme runs from Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra season concerts and visiting soloists to chamber music, Chinese instrumental nights and children's shows. For expats the best-value draw is the long-running public series: Sunday afternoon concerts with tickets from ¥10 to ¥30 (2025), and free Saturday 'Afternoon Music Time' sessions that need a reservation.
What to see and do
Main concert hall
1,680 seats in a terraced, natural-acoustic layout, one of the more advanced pure-acoustic halls in China. Most orchestral and big-name recitals happen here, on the second floor.
The pipe organ
The city's only pipe organ, built by Rieger of Austria. In March 2025 the American organist Cameron Carpenter played a live score here to the 1923 silent film The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra
The SZSO plays its season concerts here; it opened 2025 with Tan Dun's choral concerto Nine and Beethoven's Ninth, tickets ¥50–880 (Jan 2025).
'Beautiful Sunday' concerts
A public-benefit series running since 2007: hour-long Sunday 3pm concerts, ticketed at ¥10/20/30 (2025), with a ¥10 parent-and-child zone for kids aged 2–5.
Small theatre and Golden Tree Hall
The suspended small theatre (about 400–580 seats) hosts chamber music, jazz and lecture-concerts; the Golden Tree Hall and music salon take smaller events.
Festivals
The hall hosted the opening concert of the 2025 Shenzhen 'Belt and Road' International Music Festival in September 2025.
