How to buy concert tickets in China as a foreigner

Almost every big show uses real-name tickets tied to one ID. Your passport works — here's how.

  1. 1Get the app

Download Damai (大麦) or Maoyan (猫眼) — Showstart (秀动) for livehouses. You need a Chinese phone number to register; if you don't have one, a friend can buy for you.

  2. 2Add yourself as a real-name attendee

In the app, add a 实名观演人 (attendee) with your passport number exactly as printed. Each ticket is tied to one ID.

  3. 3Be ready before the drop

Big tours sell out in minutes. Tap 想看 / 预约 for a reminder, be logged in with payment set up (Alipay or WeChat Pay) at least 10 minutes early.

  4. 4Bring the same passport

No paper tickets: at the gate you scan the passport you booked with, plus a face check. A different ID won't get in.

⚠ Scalpers: Real-name tickets can't be resold. Tickets from WeChat resellers (黄牛) are booked on someone else's ID and are regularly refused at the gate. If the platform offers official resale or 'transfer', use that — and nothing else.
