What is China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE)?

CIOE (中国光博会) is Shenzhen's photonics and optoelectronics fair, held every September at Shenzhen World in Bao'an. The 27th edition in September 2026 filled 260,000 m² with 4,060 exhibitors and recorded 189,755 professional visitors. The 2025 edition had 3,827 exhibitors and 143,645 visitors, including about 6,100 from overseas. The 28th edition runs 8–10 September 2027, again with the International Integrated Circuit Innovation Expo (IICIE) and the elexcon electronics and embedded show next door. One e-pass covers all three.

The show is organised as eight themed expos. They cover information and communication (optical chips, components, transceivers, fibre and cable, data-centre optics), precision optics and camera modules, lasers and intelligent manufacturing, infrared and ultraviolet, intelligent sensing (LiDAR, 3D and spectral sensing), displays (Mini/Micro LED, automotive and flexible), AR/VR optics and AI glasses, and a photonics-innovation area for start-ups and university spin-offs. In 2026 the organizers put the optical interconnects behind AI data centres at the centre: 800G to 1.6T transceivers, silicon photonics, and co-packaged and near-packaged optics (CPO, NPO). Named exhibitors included Accelink, Eoptolink, TFC (Tianfu), Luxshare, Coherent, HiSilicon's optoelectronics unit, Sanan, MACOM, Hengtong, FiberHome, POET Technologies and ASMPT. Several Chinese chipmakers used the show for world-first launches of high-speed photodetector chips.

There are also hands-on zones: automotive optical communication, embodied robots, automotive displays, an XR-glasses teardown, telescopes and astronomy gear, and laser medical aesthetics. The conference side has more than 90 forums (98 events in 2026), led by the information-communication, optics and laser industry forums. International partners such as Yole Group, the European Photonics Industry Consortium and ePIXfab take part. Visitors are engineers, R&D staff, buyers and managers from telecom and data-centre operators, module and device makers, consumer electronics, cars, industrial automation, security and medical devices. A VIP buyer programme sets up matchmaking for people with real purchasing plans.

Much of the optical supply chain it covers, from camera modules to lasers and LiDAR, has a big presence in Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta. Go if you buy or design anything optical, from transceivers to lenses and lasers, or want to see most of China's photonics industry in a single visit.

Why go

  1. See China's optical-communication supply chain for AI data centres in one place: 800G/1.6T modules, silicon photonics, CPO/NPO, optical chips and fibre
  2. Eight themed expos spanning lenses and camera modules, lasers, infrared, LiDAR and sensing, Micro LED displays and AR/VR optics
  3. One e-pass also covers IICIE (chips and semiconductor equipment) and elexcon (embedded and electronics)
  4. 90+ forums with international partners such as Yole Group and EPIC
  5. Product launches: many Chinese optical-chip makers debut new parts here

Our take

Pre-register online and download the organizer's pre-show guide and product sourcing guides from the Download Center. The three co-located shows cover most of Shenzhen World, so decide in advance which of the eight themed expos you need. If you need a visa, request the support letter after pre-registering; it asks for your registration barcode.

Go if you're

  • Optical-module, transceiver and data-centre interconnect engineers and buyers
  • Camera-module, lens and optical-component sourcing teams for phones, cars and robots
  • Laser and precision-manufacturing equipment buyers
  • LiDAR, infrared and sensing engineers in automotive, security and industry
  • Researchers, analysts and investors tracking photonics

Flying in? The visitor guide

What international buyers ask us most, in one place.

Visa-free entry

Many passports get 30 days visa-free, and 55 nationalities can use 240-hour visa-free transit via Shenzhen when flying on to a third country. Check your eligibility before booking.

Paying for things

Link a Visa or Mastercard to Alipay or WeChat Pay before you fly — booths, taxis and canteens rarely take cards. Keep ¥500 cash for samples.

Staying online

Get a roaming eSIM: Google, WhatsApp and Gmail don't work on hotel or venue Wi-Fi. Suppliers will ask for your WeChat, not your email.

Badge & business cards

Pre-register, bring your passport to collect the badge, and pack 200 business cards. Photograph each card next to the booth number — you'll forget by day two.

Interpreters

Hall English is patchy outside the big brands. A freelance interpreter costs ¥800–1,500 a day; book a week ahead for big fairs.

Samples & shipping

Don't carry 40 kg home. SF Express and DHL counters sit in the main lobbies and will ship samples door to door from about ¥200.

Where to stay near Shenzhen World

Hotels on site sell out months ahead. Bao'an Center or Qianhai are 25–30 min away with far more choice.

  • Wear proper walking shoes — 20k steps a day is normal.
  • Taxi queues after 5pm are brutal; walk to Shenzhen World North station or book a Didi for 4:30pm.
  • Food courts sit along the central corridor; the ones at the far ends are quieter.
