Houhai's lakeside park: a 2.5 km running loop, skyline views and a weekend light show

Talent Park is the lake park in Houhai, wedged between the Shenzhen Bay towers and the seafront where it joins Shenzhen Bay Park. It opened on 1 November 2017 and covers about 77 hectares, about 30 of them water. Its theme is Shenzhen's push to attract skilled people, so the paths are lined with portraits of scientists, formula sculptures and plaques about the city's talent policies.

For most residents it is simply the best running and walking loop in Nanshan. A 2.5 km rubber track rings the heart-shaped lake, and the skyline across the water, with the China Resources tower at the centre, makes it one of the most photographed spots in the city.

Come in the early morning for a run, at sunset for photos, or on a Friday or Saturday night when the surrounding towers put on a light show reflected in the lake. The Qiuxian Pavilion book bar on the shore is a branch of Shenzhen Library and does coffee.

What to see and do

Starlight Bridge (星光桥)

A bridge across the lake lined with 30 illuminated pillars, each carrying a photo and profile of a notable Shenzhen figure; it glows blue after dark and is the prime light-show spot.

π Bridge

A 171 m bridge whose railings carry 2,017 digits of pi, a nod to the park's 2017 opening. Toilets and drinking water are nearby.

2.5 km lakeside track

A blue rubberised running loop around the lake, with benches that charge phones wirelessly, lockers and self-service showers.

Qiuxian Pavilion book bar (求贤阁)

A 100 m² lakeside reading room and café, open 08:00–22:30, linked to Shenzhen Library's borrowing system.

Baijie Hill and the formula corridor

The park's high point carries statues of figures from Einstein and Newton to Cai Lun; nearby, a corridor casts shadows of equations like E=mc² onto the ground.
