Vanke Cloud Design Commune (万科云设计公社) is a campus of low-rise offices on the northern green corridor of Vanke Cloud City, inside the Liuxiandong headquarters zone in Xili, Nanshan. It covers about 100,000 square metres and its first blocks were completed in 2016, with more than ten leading architects designing its buildings. More than 100 design firms work here, in architecture, product, spatial and digital design.
It does not look like a typical Shenzhen business park. Instead of towers there are mostly two-storey boxes in bare concrete, joined by lanes, sunken courtyards, terraces and a raised walkway along the green corridor, with lawns and planting between the buildings. On a normal weekday it is quiet and mostly used by the people who work here. Underneath one block sits a covered bus terminal topped by a rooftop sports court.
For visitors the reason to come is events. Maker Faire Shenzhen has used the commune's lanes and courtyards in most years since 2019, including 2025, and returns on 12 and 13 December 2026. Chaihuo Makerspace, the city's best-known community workshop for hardware makers, has been based here since 2017, which makes the commune a natural meeting point for Shenzhen's hardware and maker crowd.
What to see and do
Maker Faire Shenzhen
The city's yearly maker festival spreads across the commune with exhibitor booths, workshops, talks and robot shows. The 2025 edition had 145 booths and 29 workshops; the 2026 edition is on 12 and 13 December.
Chaihuo Makerspace
A shared workshop for hardware tinkerers that moved into the commune in 2017. It runs meet-ups, member workspace and visiting programmes such as an MIT Media Lab maker camp in early 2025.
Courtyard architecture
Fair-faced concrete blocks broken up by private courtyards, arcades, platforms and a small theatre, with a 10-metre-high viewing deck connecting to a skywalk along the green corridor.
Green corridor
The commune sits on the landscaped park strip that runs through Vanke Cloud City, so it is pleasant to walk between buildings even when no event is on.
