What is China Marine Economy Expo (CMEE)?

The China Marine Economy Expo (海博会) is China's national showcase for the "blue economy": offshore energy, shipbuilding and shipping, ocean monitoring, underwater robotics, marine electronics, marine biomedicine and coastal tourism. It takes place every October at Shenzhen World in Bao'an and ties in with the city's push to become a "global marine centre city"; the Shenzhen government held an official press conference to launch the 2025 edition. The show is operated by Canton Fair Advertising Co. with two partner companies. Its organizers describe it as China's only national-level marine economy exhibition and the country's top ocean show.

The 2026 edition is organised around eight zones: deep-sea energy development, marine electronics, green shipping and low-carbon logistics, ocean monitoring and disaster warning, modern marine services and coastal tourism, low-altitude (drone) applications at sea, marine biomedicine, and marine ecology. There are also special areas for international exhibitors, APEC ocean cooperation and ocean start-ups. At the 2025 edition, when more than 300 companies exhibited over roughly 40,000 m², the floor had big state groups (China Merchants, China Communications Construction, Shenzhen Port, CNOOC, CIMC, Shenzhen Energy, Ansteel), telecoms operators China Mobile and China Unicom, and tech companies including Huawei and Inspur alongside smaller ocean-tech firms such as Zhilan (underwater acoustic communication and positioning). Companies already announced for 2026 include the CAS Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics (deep-sea cameras and underwater optical communication), Hollysys (offshore platform control systems), Mairun (AI vision for smart shipping) and Haiying (sonar and ADCP instruments, part of the CSSC group).

The forums are a large part of the draw. The Marine Centre City Forum has run alongside the expo since 2019. For 2026 it has France as guest of honour and Hainan as guest province, with sessions on shipping and ports, ocean renewables, blue finance, APEC cooperation and AI in ocean industries. In 2025 the programme also included an APEC ocean seminar, and the concurrent Shenzhen International Ocean Week added public ship open days and ocean science activities.

For foreign visitors it is a useful single stop to meet China's port, shipping, offshore-energy and ocean-instrument players, and to scout Shenzhen and Pearl River Delta suppliers of marine electronics, drones and underwater robots. In 2025 entry was free for visitors who registered online. The organizers have promoted the 2026 show abroad at SMM Hamburg and in Singapore, so expect some international delegations.

Why go

  1. Meet China's port, shipping and offshore-energy groups (China Merchants, CNOOC, CIMC, Shenzhen Port and others) under one roof
  2. Source ocean-tech hardware: underwater acoustic positioning, deep-sea cameras, sonar and ADCP instruments, marine drones and control systems
  3. The Marine Centre City Forum, with France as guest country in 2026, and APEC ocean cooperation sessions
  4. A start-up zone and an international zone for scouting partners
  5. Free entry for registered visitors (2025)

Our take

Register online before you go; entry was free for registered visitors in 2025. Shenzhen World is on Metro Line 20 near the airport, a long way from central Shenzhen, so allow plenty of travel time. If you care about policy and big-ticket partnerships, the forum days matter more than the floor.

Go if you're

  • Port, shipping and logistics professionals
  • Offshore energy (oil, gas, wind) engineers and buyers
  • Marine electronics, ocean instrumentation and underwater robotics buyers
  • Government, research institutes and investors in the ocean economy
  • International delegations looking for Chinese marine-tech partners

Flying in? The visitor guide

What international buyers ask us most, in one place.

Visa-free entry

Many passports get 30 days visa-free, and 55 nationalities can use 240-hour visa-free transit via Shenzhen when flying on to a third country. Check your eligibility before booking.

Paying for things

Link a Visa or Mastercard to Alipay or WeChat Pay before you fly — booths, taxis and canteens rarely take cards. Keep ¥500 cash for samples.

Staying online

Get a roaming eSIM: Google, WhatsApp and Gmail don't work on hotel or venue Wi-Fi. Suppliers will ask for your WeChat, not your email.

Badge & business cards

Pre-register, bring your passport to collect the badge, and pack 200 business cards. Photograph each card next to the booth number — you'll forget by day two.

Interpreters

Hall English is patchy outside the big brands. A freelance interpreter costs ¥800–1,500 a day; book a week ahead for big fairs.

Samples & shipping

Don't carry 40 kg home. SF Express and DHL counters sit in the main lobbies and will ship samples door to door from about ¥200.

Where to stay near Shenzhen World

Hotels on site sell out months ahead. Bao'an Center or Qianhai are 25–30 min away with far more choice.

  • Wear proper walking shoes — 20k steps a day is normal.
  • Taxi queues after 5pm are brutal; walk to Shenzhen World North station or book a Didi for 4:30pm.
  • Food courts sit along the central corridor; the ones at the far ends are quieter.
