Shenzhen is a better live-music city than it first appears. The trick is choosing the right kind of venue: B10 Live for international and Chinese alternative acts, HOU LIVE and MAO Livehouse for touring bands, Penny Black for a seated jazz night, and Sea World when you want a band without buying a concert ticket weeks in advance.
| What you want | Where to look | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Indie, post-rock, metal and international touring acts | B10 Live | OCT-LOFT, Nanshan |
| Chinese touring bands and pop-adjacent livehouse shows | HOU LIVE | Futian |
| Touring rock and pop in Shekou | MAO Livehouse | Sea World |
| Jazz every night | Penny Black Jazz Club | OCT-LOFT |
| Pub band and an easy social night | The Terrace, George & Dragon or Gecko | Sea World |
| Classical, opera and crossover concerts | Shenzhen Concert Hall | Futian Civic Centre |

B10 is the first calendar to check for serious live music. It sits in the north side of OCT-LOFT and books a broad mix of indie, post-rock, metal, electronic and experimental tours. Its September 2026 calendar includes We Lost the Sea, God Is An Astronaut, Dorena and Katatonia, alongside Chinese acts.

Address: North side of Building C2, OCT-LOFT North, Nanshan
Best move: buy the ticket first, then arrive 30–45 minutes before the listed start.
B10 is a standing livehouse, not a casual bar. Pick the artist, not simply the venue. The official bilingual calendar lists times and links, while ShowStart is useful for tickets and Chinese tour details.
These venues catch many of the city’s Chinese and Asian touring acts. HOU LIVE is useful when you are staying in Futian; MAO Livehouse puts a proper ticketed show beside the restaurants and bars of Sea World; CH8 adds another Nanshan option. Check the performer and exact branch on the ticket because livehouse brands can operate more than one room.
Penny Black Jazz Club in OCT-LOFT currently advertises live jazz every night. It is a natural second stop after dinner in the creative park and a lower-commitment alternative to a ticketed B10 concert.
LAVO Jazz · Funk · Soul around Shenzhen Bay is the polished date-night choice: dinner, cocktails and a programmed live set rather than a loud standing show. Confirm that evening's performance before crossing the city.
Sea World is the safest choice when your group cannot agree on a genre. The Terrace advertises nightly live music beginning around 9:30 p.m. Gecko Pub currently lists bands Thursday through Sunday, while George & Dragon regularly promotes weekend rock covers.
The advantage is flexibility: eat in the plaza, listen from outside, then choose the room that sounds best. The disadvantage is that the music leans toward crowd-friendly covers rather than original indie bands.
B10 Live has the strongest all-round calendar for indie and international touring artists. For a casual band night, Sea World is easier.
Sometimes, but popular tours sell out. Buy through the current official ticket link, ShowStart or Damai when possible.
The Terrace, Gecko and George & Dragon in Sea World are the easiest. B10 also publishes a bilingual calendar and regularly hosts international artists.
